"Uranus" from the album "The Universe"

This week I wanted to talk about ‘Uranus’ and what to look forward to with the music pieces on the upcoming album “The Universe”.

Uranus is the seventh planet and takes 84 years to orbit the Sun. Other planets are named after Roman gods; this is the only planet in our solar system named after a Greek god Ouranos (pronounced [oh-ron-nos]).  Today it is used in the Latin version Uranus (properly pronounced [oo-ron-us]).  If they kept the original Greek way there would be less embarrassment or confusion on how it is pronounced.
This planet is known as the god of the sky or primal god of the Heavens.  Based on its sky discovery, the methane in the atmosphere may be what causes the planets bluish green color.  It has enough pressure on the carbon from the methane particles making it into diamonds raining through the mantle like hailstones.

Uranus is the about 1.6 billion miles from the Sun would make it one of the coldest planets at -355 degrees Fahrenheit in our solar system.  Being made up mostly of gas hydrogen and helium, it is the third largest planet and is also known as one of the gas giants.  Unlike Saturn which has thick visible rings Uranus has 13 thin rings.  It has 27 known moons listed in 3 categories.  Named after English literature, there are 13 inner moons, 5 major moons and the 9 irregular moons.  Uranus is the only planet that rotates on its side at 98 degrees resembling a target or bullseye, which means the poles get 42 years of light and 42 years of darkness.  The planets rotation of one day is 17 hours and 14 minutes.

Being a gas planet some of its cloud surfaces rotate differently because of the high winds some areas may rotate faster around 14 hours.  Even though the poles get more sunlight, it is still hotter at the equator, no one is sure why.  Its core is surrounded by water ammonia and methane at temperatures 4,200 degrees Fahrenheit.

With its rotation it has an unusual magnetosphere is about as strong as the earths, and has an unusual axis of being off 59 degree making it stronger on its north pole than its south pole.  This may be caused by its liquid diamond ocean to cause a deflection of its magnetic sphere it may be caused by it water mantle instead.

This piece was written for its simple yet melodic settings.  Uranus with its sub-zero climate and diamond rains in its atmosphere.  Being so distant and one of the quieter lesser known busy planets in our solar system.  I wanted this music piece to have a sophistication and elegance to it.  I wanted to give it more of a simple quality that would be taken in a richer form for its cloudy majestic sky.

"Saturn" from the album "The Universe"

Hi Everyone,

This week I wanted to talk about ‘Saturn’ and what to look forward to with the music pieces on the upcoming album “The Universe”.

Saturn is named after the god Saturnus, the god of agriculture and harvest.  Saturn is the sixth planet from the Sun and the second largest is the most photogenic planet in the solar system.  It is about 890 million miles from the Sun and takes about 29 years to make one orbit.  It is made up of 75 percent Hydrogen and 25 percent Helium.  It is about 74,900 miles in diameter and can fit about 765 Earths.  Unlike Jupiter it is so buoyant if there were enough water it would float.  Like Jupiter it has no solid surface.  We do not really know the rotation of a day, the cloud tops rotate about 11 hours.  There are 8 rings and are lettered from A-G and span from tip to tip about 200,000 miles across and are very thin about as thick as a 1 or 2 story building and like looking at a sheet of paper in comparison.

There are at least 62 moons, Titan being its largest moon is bigger than Mercury and Pluto.  The Cassini/Huygens spacecraft took 7 years to reach Saturn.  The Huygens probe was sent to Titan and discovered it has an atmosphere and solid ground similar to Earth.  With Saturn’s other unique moons like Enceladus being only 300 miles across water and water ice geyser vapors shooting out from its surface forming the E ring.  Others like Mimas which looks like a familiar Death Star, Iapetus and many others with their shapes and sizes.

This piece was written for its serene and beautiful settings.  Saturn being the second biggest planet, I wanted to allow a more majestic and richer quality with lower orchestral and other various instruments without competing with Jupiter which is without comparison.

"Jupiter" from the album "The Universe"

Jupiter

This week I wanted to talk about ‘Jupiter’ and what to look forward to with the music pieces on the upcoming album “The Universe”.

Jupiter is fifth and largest of the planets it is known as the Roman King of the gods.  Not only is it the biggest of the planets in our solar system, it has enough room to fit all the planets in our solar system and have room to spare.  The Earth can comfortably fit in well known storm as the Big Red Spot.  The vastness of the Jupiter can also fit about 1,300 Earths comfortably.  Jupiter is 485 million miles from the Sun and mostly made of gases; about 86 percent hydrogen and 13 percent helium and has no surface area.  It spins so fast that it bulges at the equator.  A day on Jupiter is less than 10 hours (9.9) and takes about 12 years to orbit the Sun.  With its enormous magnetosphere giving it a huge gravitational pull, it is a like a small solar system in itself pulling any or everything that enters its realm.

There are at least 69 Moons and all are extremely different with their substance such as ‘Io’ (pronounced eye-oh) being close most actively volcanic, Europa looks like it is cracked like an egg shell covered with ice, Callisto being filed with craters from many years of bombardment and Ganymede at -240 degrees and more than 40 miles thick on its crust Ganymede is the biggest moon in the solar system, all being very distinctive.  There are also small rings that orbit the planet, not very visible as other planets.  There are even Aurora’s around the poles.

There are storms on Jupiter and enormous pressure.  The temperatures on the mantle level are about 18,000 degrees Fahrenheit.  And the further you go toward the center it becomes a seething level of metallic hydrogen which makes up a lot of its magnetic field.  Without Jupiter the Earth and surrounding planets may cease to exist.  Because of its great magnetic field it is considered as the solar systems vacuum cleaner.  It will take comets and space debris and either sling shots it out of the way or it devours that object in its path.  July 1994 the comet Shoemaker Levy 9 came too close and impacted into Jupiter.

This piece was written for its monstrous and powerful size and vastness.  There are a number of orchestra instruments and various instruments added to give it the richness and depth. The intent was to describe an aggressive massive high energy and somewhat unpredictable power that Jupiter would portray with a majestic presence of supremacy as being the King of the planets.

"Mars" from the album "The Universe"

Mars

Hi Everyone,

This week I wanted to talk about ‘Mars’ and what to look forward to with the music pieces on the upcoming album “The Universe”.

There are a number of planets in our solar system, but there are very few that you can actually visit due to their lack of surface and their atmosphere.  Mars is a planet that has similarities to planet Earth.  It is quite a small planet it is only 4,214 miles in diameter and about the width of the United States or Australia.  It has two moons Phobos and Deimos.  From the Sun it is about 142 million miles one orbit takes about 687 days.  For one rotation it has a day of 24 and half hours.  The surface gravity is 0.38 times the Earth’s gravity. The temperatures vary and can reach as high as 30 degree Fahrenheit on average of -80 degrees on average and a low of -195 degrees Fahrenheit.  The conditions are pretty rough if you were to ever visit there.

You can never go out of a breath of fresh air.  The atmosphere is 95.3 percent carbon dioxide and the pressure is less than 1 percent of the Earth.  In other words if you were to take off your space suite your blood would boil which would not be a pleasant experience.  There is no ultra violet protection (UV) and you would be burnt to a crisp in moments.  The dust on Mars is as fine as fire smoke and can get into your clothes, equipment, into your lungs and everywhere.  There are dusts storms that cover the planet about once every three years.  This happened the first time when Mariner 9 first visited the planet in 1971.  Olympus Mons is the 85,000 feet about two and half times the height of Mount Everest making it the highest peak in the solar system.  The height may have been caused by its lower gravity.  There have been questions if water has been discovered on Mars.  In 2008 the Phoenix Lander was sent to the north arctic pole and water ice was found on the surface under the spacecraft.  There have been ice discover near the equator as well.  This opens many possibilities from the earlier stages of the planets origin.

You will notice this piece was written in some ways similar with the piece atmosphere to co-inside with one another.  It was written as a description of Mars and its surface.  Being a dusty and desolate location it has a sense of intensity and adventure.  There are many different instruments and with touch of sound design for giving you an effect of what you may experience if you were there.

More things to think about.  In the meantime if you haven't listened to my other albums, feel free to share any of following links below:
